We elect five Directors to make decisions concerning our local water district. Currently, all five of them are Republicans. However, Mesa Water is not practicing the financial responsibility that many Republicans preach.
For example, the current Board spends boat loads of your tax dollars to (1) unnecessarily attend numerous conferences, (2) fly first class, (3) ride in limos to and from the airport, (4) exaggerate mileage reimbursements, and (5) pay for expensive meals for themselves and others. Read the article that details their extravagant spending habits here.
In addition to receiving a monthly stipend, the Directors create various committees, and compensate themselves to attend those committee meetings. As a result, they make a decent annual salary for their part-time service.
Perhaps the most egregious expense is the General Manager’s compensation package. Himself a former elected Director, now makes more money than the CEO of Orange County, even though Mesa Water only has 64 employees and services about 25,000 customers (the County, by comparison, has more than 18,000 employees and services more than 3 million residents).
It’s ironic how the type of individual who ordinarily likes to crusade against the allegedly bloated compensation packages of other public sector employees (i.e., teachers) often has no hesitation when it comes to enriching one of their own.
Even though we consistently use less water, we are continually required to pay higher rates. Apparently, the reason for that phenomenon is simple: because somebody has to foot the bill for the beauracrats to keep their snouts in the public trough.
3 of the 5 Directors will be up for re-election in 2018…VOTE THEM OUT!!!
